Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 15, 2017.  We start at 8:00 a.m. and shortly after drop-off there will be a Welcome Back Breakfast for parents, grandparents and guardians in the LGI at George Hall.  We look forward to meeting to families.  If your child is starting T-K or Kindergarten we have a supportive team to help the transition go smoothly.

This year, teachers will be implementing a new ELA/ELD curriculum and learning the program which is driven by teacher expertise and a balanced literacy program.  It is not a scripted basal reading program.  You will see changes in homework and at the end of each unit, all students (except T-K) will bring home their own copy of their reading text which will be annotated, analyzed and connected to science and social studies content.

George Hall School continues to grow and we are adding an additional classroom in the 4th/5th grades.  We are excited to congratulate teachers who have retired or moved on in their careers and ready to build our team with a new set of highly qualified teachers and staff otherwise known as "rock stars".

Over the summer break, our PTA and dedicated parents were able to partner with Menlo Park Church for a third year in a row and work to get our campus cleaned up and ready to go for the school year.  We spent a whole Saturday planting succulents, building a living wall, hanging shelves, moving classroom supplies, and painting stencils on the playground.  These changes are aimed at making the campus and classrooms more engaging and inviting for students.  Additionally, our four student bathrooms have been remodeled along with two drinking fountains. We now have a filtered water refilling station and all the work done by the contractors exceeded expectations.

Please don't hesitate to call the school office or send an email if you have any questions prior to the start of school.

Fondly,

Kristen Ugrin
